WHAT ABOUT DIAMONDS?

Posted by Kim Zachary on

Here at Chikahisa Studio, we care about the process diamonds take from mine to market. That is why we use very select diamond sources that follow the Kimberly Process & are Ethical Diamonds. In 2003, the Kimberly Process was implemented to ensure that conflict diamonds do not enter the global diamond trade. Because of the complexities of diamond trading, the stones may change hands dozens of times, from the mine to various wholesalers to a diamond cutter through more wholesalers and, finally, to retail. Along the way, each trader must certify thorough the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) that the diamond is in compliance with the Kimberly Process (KP).

The Kimberly Process unites administrations, civil societies, and industry in reducing the flow of Conflict Diamonds "rough diamonds used to finance wars against governments" around the world.

Going beyond a Conflict Free Diamond are those that are distinguished as Ethical Diamonds - those that ensure fair pay, safe working conditions, environmentally sound practices, and no human rights abuses.
