Caring for Your Chikahisa Studio Piece
A handcrafted piece deserves thoughtful care.
Chikahisa Studio works in three metals — proprietary bronze, matte sterling silver, and oxidized sterling silver. Each one ages differently, and each one rewards the right kind of attention.
This is not mass-produced jewelry. It won't respond well to mass-produced cleaning methods. What's below will keep your piece looking exactly as it should — for decades.
Bronze
Chikahisa bronze is a proprietary alloy, denser and warmer than standard casting bronze. It develops a natural patina over time — deepening in the recesses, brightening at the edges where it meets light and skin.
This is not damage. It's the metal becoming more itself.
To care for it: avoid prolonged exposure to water, chlorine, and lotions. A soft cloth will brighten the surface if desired. Or leave the patina to deepen. Both are right.
Sterling silver — matte finish
Our matte sterling has a soft, brushed surface that gives it a quiet, understated quality. Over time, high-wear areas will develop a gentle polish where the piece meets skin. This is natural and part of how the piece evolves with you.
To care for it: keep it away from harsh chemicals, chlorine, and prolonged water exposure. A soft cloth maintains the surface if you want to keep it consistent.
Sterling silver — oxidized finish
Our oxidized sterling is darkened by hand, giving it the deep smoky quality that makes it distinctive. Over time, high-wear areas will naturally brighten where the metal meets light and skin. This contrast is intentional — the piece shows you exactly where it lives.
To care for it: avoid harsh chemicals and water when possible. Store it in a soft pouch when not wearing it. Do not use standard silver polish — it will strip the oxidization entirely.
How to clean your piece at home
We recommend Bar Keepers Friend for all Chikahisa metals. It's gentle enough for both bronze and sterling without stripping the finish or oxidization, and it removes buildup without damaging the surface.
